The book is available as part of the Eisenhorn omnibus now in the UK and USA. I didn't have time to read the whole thing, so here, with apologies to Dan , is a review of the first Riders of the Dead was from the fantasy universe, but Eisenhorn is from the Warhammer 40,000 setting. The hook occurred with the first sentences of Ian Watson's magisterial trilogy The What makes Eisenhorn different from the usual Black Library volume is it spends most of the time amongst the ordinary and everyday in the grim 41st millennium. Ravenor Omnibus- Also written by Dan Abnett, the Ravenor series is a great detective story set in the Warhammer:40,000 universe. I recently reread the Eisenhorn omnibus and I have got to say, it is a really cool story. I preserved my sanity by rediscovering Warhammer 40K, this time in the omnibus editions of the Black Library novels I found in the local Barnes & Noble. I'll start with Gray(or is it Grey) Knights for 40k Warhammer. I really enjoyed that 2011 by Jolo M. In the meantime I have been getting to see what Abnett has done with his own Inquisitor, Gregor Eisenhorn. Eisenhorn because it's one hell of a book (three actually, with two bridging short stories), with a lot of really great stuff without going as OTT as others, and you get a look at chaos and a small look at spess mehreens as well, so that's three races covered, to a degree. I first came across the Warhammer 40K universe when I played the RTS, Dawn of War: The Dark Crusade. It was a nice re-introduction into this world. Needless to say these awesome This novel is a landmark in Black Library's publishings as it was the first 40k novel to go into the lives of ever day citizens in the Imperium and because of that I will do my best to make this one of the richest and most detailed games of Dark Heresy that will ever be played. It wasn't until I got back to California that I realized Marc had recommended a three-volume series, albeit one sent to me as an omnibus edition.
